Kumar, Akshay To determine if "OMG 2" will debut in theatres or on an OTT platform

The much anticipated next entertaining Akshay Kumar movie may take a bit longer to arrive. Oh My God 2, the follow-up to the popular film Oh My God, is said to be set for an OTT release, with Voot and Jio Cinemas apparently bidding for the film's distribution rights.

Things might change, however, if one of the producers, Akshay Kumar, decides against going the internet route and takes a gamble by releasing the film in cinemas. According to sources, if all goes according to plan, fans will be able to see the megastar on the big screen.

The course of action chosen by Akshay Kumar will determine the outcome of Oh My God 2. After he returns from the set of his forthcoming action-packed film, Bade Miyan Chhote Miyan, starring Tiger Shroff and directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, the actor will make the ultimate decision.

According to a source close to the production team, the decision on whether to distribute the movie in cinemas or straight on an OTT platform has not yet been made. They must first inform Akshay, who is also a co-producer of the movie, before making this choice.

“This decision on the release of OMG2 has been put on hold since Akshay has been preoccupied with the Bade Miyan Chhote Miyan filming in Scotland and other overseas places. Once Akshay returns to Mumbai, the team will meet, and only then will the plan of action be finalised, the source told TOI.

Oh My God 2 may draw viewers from B and C-tier cities if it decides to be released in cinemas because of its subject matter. But it's crucial to remember that these are the same people that the high-profile films Ram Setu and Raksha Bandhan failed to engage the previous year.

Selfiee, the predecessor of Akshay Kumar's current film, was released in cinemas as opposed to online, yet it fared poorly at the box office.Oh My God 2's narrative is on the Indian educational system, especially adult education, and features Yami Gautam and Pankaj Tripathi in important roles in addition to Akshay.

Along with the Hindi remakes of Soorarai Pottru, Capsule Gill, and Hera Pheri 3 with Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal, Akshay Kumar also has OMG2 and Bade Miyan Chhote Miyan in his filmography.
