On Sunday, Canada eliminated Spain, the reigning champion, from the Basketball World Cup, while Italy, Serbia, and Latvia, the tournament’s breakout star, all progressed to the quarterfinals.

Despite the fact that both teams, along with Germany and Slovenia, had already qualified, the United States suffered their first defeat of the competition at the hands of Lithuania.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-160104″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-shikshak-divas-in-history-significance-and-key-details-for-teachers-day-in-2023-do-750×527.jpg” alt=”theindiaprint.com shikshak divas in history significance and key details for teachers day in 2023 do” width=”1477″ height=”1038″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-shikshak-divas-in-history-significance-and-key-details-for-teachers-day-in-2023-do-750×527.jpg 750w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-shikshak-divas-in-history-significance-and-key-details-for-teachers-day-in-2023-do-768×539.jpg 768w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-shikshak-divas-in-history-significance-and-key-details-for-teachers-day-in-2023-do-150×105.jpg 150w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-shikshak-divas-in-history-significance-and-key-details-for-teachers-day-in-2023-do.jpg 1000w” sizes=”(max-width: 1477px) 100vw, 1477px” title=”As the United States suffers its first defeat, Canada kicks Basketball World Cup hosts Spain out 3″>

In the round of eight, the US will play Italy, while Lithuania will play Serbia, Germany will play Latvia, and Slovenia will play Canada.

As the two top-placed teams from the Americas, along with the United States, Canada, and Brazil, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, and Brazil all failed to qualify for the Paris Olympics.

With three victories each, Spain and Canada breezed through the group round, but when the second round began, both teams suffered shocking losses.

That prepared them for a winner-takes-all head-to-head matchup in Jakarta, where Canada emerged victorious 88-85.

The game’s leading scorer Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who ended with 30 points, remarked, “Our group wanted it a little bit more.”

We were prepared to go above and above because we were aware of what was at risk, he added.

Spain led by two points at the conclusion of the third quarter and by ten points at the half, but Canada stormed back.

Gilgeous-Alexander scored 13 points in the crucial fourth quarter, while teammate Dillon Brooks chipped in with 22 total points.

Jordi Fernandez, the head coach of Canada, referred to his players as “the definition of a winning team.”

We weren’t simply here for the Olympics, he continued.

We want to make sure that everyone is aware of our presence and our want for more by pounding on the door.

Sergio Scariolo, the head coach of Spain, said that he “couldn’t be prouder” of his squad but bemoaned their inability to thwart Gilgeous-Alexander.

It’s true that floor leadership is important in all four quarters, he remarked.

“We had to know that things could happen when the opponent is an NBA All Star and he’s handling it that way,” said the coach.

– Latvia’s ultimate race –

Latvia defeated Brazil 104-84 to go with Canada to the quarterfinals.

In its World Cup debut, Latvia has already defeated Spain and France, the silver medalists from the Tokyo Olympics.

Luca Banchi, the squad’s head coach, said after yet another outstanding performance that his team “no longer needs a coach.”

The Italian remarked, “They are strong, aware, and precise, bringing more and more confidence into the competition.

“We can adjust, they understand what I’m asking when we discuss options, and they are aware of the approach that works.”

To go to the quarterfinals for the first time since 1998, Italy defeated Puerto Rico 73-57.

Gianmarco Pozzecco, the head coach and a former member of the Italian team, claimed to have “12 lions on the court” throughout the game.

“I asked them before the game if they wanted to continue, and they answered on the court,” he said.

Serbia rebounded from an unexpected loss to Italy in their last game by defeating the Dominican Republic 112-79 to progress.

After defeating the US 110-104, Lithuania became the last undefeated team left in the competition, handing the Americans their first loss.

A ferocious US comeback in the second half was unable to overcome a Lithuanian squad that made all nine of its first-chance three-pointers.

The Americans will need to get out to a faster start in the quarterfinals, according to US head coach Steve Kerr.

We needed to experience this, he said, “and we needed to respond. We have to start the next game the way we did in the second half.”

“We cannot begin the game slowly at all. I’m hopeful that we can learn from this and go on.

In a matchup between two teams that had previously advanced to the quarterfinals, Germany defeated Slovenia 100-71.

Australia defeated Georgia 100-84 and Montenegro defeated Greece 73-69 in matches between eliminated teams.
