Anthropic, an AI competitor to OpenAI, will get a $2 billion investment from Google

<p>According to The Wall Street Journal, the financial agreement includes $500 million up front and up to $1.5 billion thereafter.</p>
<p>Google has not yet responded to the news.</p>
<p>Google made a $300 million investment in the business in April, acquiring a 10% share.</p>
<p>Amazon said in September that it will spend up to $4 billion, granting it a minority ownership stake in the AI firm Anthropic. This move comes as competition intensifies in the generative AI sector, which is currently dominated by OpenAI’s ChatGPT.</p>
<p>Claude 2, an adversarial chatbot to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, is created by Anthropic.</p>
<p>Claude 2 does better than the 90th percentile in both the reading and writing sections of the GRE, as well as in the quantitative reasoning test.</p>
<p>Anthropic, together with Alphabet, Microsoft, and OpenAI, was one of four businesses invited to a meeting with US Vice President Kamala Harris at the White House to discuss ethical AI research.</p>
<p>To develop, train, and implement its next foundation models, Anthropic will use AWS Trainium and Inferentia chips, taking advantage of AWS’s affordability, scalability, performance, and security.</p>
<p>Anthropic has secured $1.5 billion in investment as of July 2023.</p>
<p>Former top OpenAI members Daniela Amodei and Dario Amodei—the latter of whom held the position of Vice President of Research at OpenAI—founded Anthropic in 2021.</p>
